You don’t have to leave your home to recharge your Citiq Prepaid meter. We have a number of online and mobile purchasing options available, which means you can safely and conveniently top up from your home. Online options also enable you to purchase tokens for your loved ones with Citiq Prepaid meters and subsequently your loved ones can purchase tokens for you too. Although Citiq Prepaid offers multiple recharge points across the country, the current lockdown we are experiencing means that many people will not be leaving their homes. The easiest and safest way to purchase tokens would be online or via your mobile phone.

What will you need to get started?

  • Your 11 digit Citiq Prepaid meter number
  • A cell phone number to receive the 20 digit code via SMS. 

 

Citiq Prepaid Website

  1. Ensure you are registered with Citiq Prepaid on www.citiqprepaid.co.za/sign-up or the call centre can assist on 087 55 111 55.
  2. Log in to www.citiqprepaid.co.za and buy electricity using your credit card or the Ozow EFT payment option. Select an option and follow the prompts.
  3. Once complete, you’ll receive an SMS with your token number to enter into your prepaid meter.

How to buy tokens via the Citiq Prepaid website

REGISTER

If you are not already registered to buy tokens via our website:

  • Step 1: Go to www.citiqprepaid.co.za
  • Step 2: Click on the SIGN UP button right at the top of the page
  • Step 3: Add your meter number and click NEXT
  • Step 4: Add your name, surname, ID number and email address and click on SIGN UP
  • Step 5: You’ll receive an activation link from Citiq Prepaid to activate your account, Click on the link
  • Step 6: Set your password
  • Log in to purchase tokens

BUY TOKENS

If you are already registered to buy tokens

  • Step 1: Go to www.citiqprepaid.co.za
  • Step 2: Click on LOGIN
  • Step 3: Click on New Purchase
  • Step 4: Enter amount and select payment method: credit card or the Ozow EFT payment option.
    – When you select the credit card option, you will be redirected to the VCS Payment Gateway where you need to enter your credit card details.
    – Selecting the Ozow option you will be directed to the Ozow secure payment page where you need to select your bank, and log in to your bank with your online banking details.
  • Once the transaction is complete you will receive an SMS with your token number
  • Punch the number into your prepaid electricity meter.

 

USSD for cellphone banking

The USSD option currently works for those who have accounts with FNB, Absa, Standard Bank, Nedbank and Capitec.

  1. Ensure you are registered for your bank’s cellphone banking service and that you’re registered with Citiq Prepaid onwww.citiqprepaid.co.za/sign-up or by phoning the call centre on 087 55 111 55.
  2. Use the following USSD codes to initiate the purchase and the follow the prompts:
  • FNB: *120* 321#
  • STANDARD BANK: *120*2345#
  • ABSA: *120*2272#
  • NEDBANK: *120*001#
  • CAPITEC: *120*3279#
  1. Once the transaction is complete you will receive an SMS with your token number which you can enter into your prepaid meter.

Your online or mobile banking app

The online or mobile banking app option currently works for those who have accounts with FNB, Absa, Standard Bank, Nedbank, Capitec and Investec and are registered for online banking. If you are unsure whether you’re registered or not, we suggest contacting your bank directly.

  1. Navigate through the app to the ‘Buy’ button and then the ‘electricity’ button.
  2. Follow the prompts and once complete you will receive your 20 digital token via the app or SMS.
  3. Punch the number into your prepaid electricity meter.
