HOW TO BUY PREPAID ELECTRICITY TOKENS
Prepaid electricity tokens can be bought in various ways to ensure tenants can recharge 24 hours a day at many convenient locations countrywide. We also have online partners, and tokens may be purchased through various accessible online systems, including banks and our own portal below.
Please enter your meter number to check if it is managed by Citiq Prepaid.
In order to buy tokens online and receive your token number via SMS, register as a tenant client. Please note Citiq Prepaid only dispenses electricity tokens for meters managed by us. We do not dispense tokens for Municipal or Eskom meters. The following options exist for purchasing tokens. Please be aware that the cost of the payment methods varies, and that Credit Card and Ozow is by far the cheapest option. If you need more information about how to register, read this FAQ.
Citiq Prepaid Website
(0% channel fees with Credit Card or Instant EFT via Ozow)
Ensure you are registered with Citiq Prepaid. If you need assistance with this, please call the call centre on
087 55 111 55.
Log in, select New Purchase, and choose either credit card or the Ozow EFT payment option.
CREDIT CARD
When you select the credit card option, you will be redirected to the VCS Payment Gateway, where you must enter your credit card details.
OZOW
When you’re ready to make a payment, select the Ozow option. This will direct you to the Ozow secure payment page, where you can choose your bank and log in with your online banking details.
Once the transaction is complete, you will receive an SMS with your token number. Punch the number into your prepaid electricity meter.
RETAIL STORES, KIOSKS AND PETROL STATIONS
Tokens can be bought at any of the following:
You will pay for electricity and receive a slip with your 20 digit token number. Punch the number into your prepaid electricity meter
Your online or mobile banking app
Navigate through the app to the ‘Buy’ button and then the ‘electricity’ button. Follow the prompts and you will receive your 20 digital token via the app or SMS.
FLASH Vendors
If you have a FLASH vendor in your area you can buy your tokens directly from them. They will need your meter number and will provide you with your token number on a printed slip.
UniPIN
Retail stores are able to provide UniPIN vouchers to purchase Citiq Prepaid tokens. UniPIN vouchers require that you sms your meter & voucher number to the telephone number provided as per the instructions on the UniPIN voucher. Please take care in doing this, since sms’ing the wrong meter number cannot be reversed.
USSD for Cellphone Banking
Ensure you are registered for your bank’s cellphone banking service.
Use the following USSD codes to initiate the purchase and the follow the prompts

Once the transaction is complete you will receive an SMS with your token number
ATMs
If you bank with Nedbank, you can purchase your token directly from a Nedbank ATM. Simply follow the instructions on the ATM for making prepaid electricity purchases.
