How to install Citiq Prepaid meters
Installing Citiq Prepaid electricity meters is easy. Please note the meter should always be installed downstream from the Eskom/ council meter. Replacing an Eskom/ council meter is illegal.
Step 1: Mount the meter on the preferred position.
Step 2: Open bottom cover of the meter.
Step 3: Look at the wiring diagram on the back of the bottom cover. Wire meter as per the diagram. Ensure all screws are tightened to prevent hot connections.
Step 4: Place the bottom cover back on the meter and tighten the cover to prevent the meter from going into tamper mode once powered on. Ensure that the tamper seal is placed on the screw of the cover once the meter is on.
Final step: Power the meter on from the main DB board.
Should the meter not supply power to the unit, please contact the Citiq Prepaid call centre on 087 55 111 55 for additional assistance.
If the meter is still not working, please follow the Warranty procedure.
We’ve also put together this video to show you step-by-step how the installation process works:
I think the meter is faulty
Do not disconnect the meter! Give our call centre a call so an agent can take you through the steps to check if the meter is faulty. If possible, they will be able to assist you over the phone. If it’s a non-technical issue and the meter is not working, the agent will advise whether the meter still qualifies for replacement (within 12 months after registration), and issue you with a reference number. The warranty procedure is outlined on our Warranty page.
How do I get a tamper code?
The registered property owner needs to phone the call centre to request a tamper code for security and verification purposes: 087 55 111 55.
What if I have a technical question?
My client can’t buy tokens
Please advise them to call the call centre on 087 55 111 55. Our agents will ask them information about the merchant, the error message they’re seeing, and will easily be able to assist.
How do I redeem my CIC voucher?
You will receive your CIC voucher via email or SMS. You need to go to your preferred wholesaler to redeem your voucher. They will guide you through the process. Please check the expiration date on the voucher. You can only redeem it at your preferred wholesaler (the wholesaler you selected when you signed up for the CIC). If you have any questions, please get in touch with the CIC team via phone: 087 55 111 87 or email: cic@citiqprepaid.co.za
What if my client wants to switch to Citiq Prepaid
Clients are able to switch to Citiq Prepaid if they have a sub-meter with another provider.
Step One
– Contact your current service provider
– Inform them that you would like to switch and request a key change.
– Your service provider may charge you for this, and you will need to pay them directly.
– Once you have successfully paid for the key change, your service provider will give you a key change token. Keep this safe!
Step Two (this needs to happen on the same day)
– Call Citiq Prepaid on 087 55 111 55 or email help@citiqprepaid.co.za and let us know you’re switching to us.
– Our friendly call centre will talk you through the switching process. Once your details have been captured and confirmed, we will provide you with a second key change token.
Step Three
Punch in your first key change number (from step one) into your meter and then punch in your second key change number (from Citiq Prepaid) into the meter.
Congratulations, you have now successfully switched to Citiq Prepaid!
You can now register for the Citiq Prepaid Meter Management System to purchase tokens immediately. Call us on 087 55 111 55 to register!
Remember, the switching process needs to all happen on the same day to ensure your meter works efficiently.
We’ve also put together this video to show you step-by-step how the installation process works:
Do you offer training?
We don’t offer training, but can highly recommend the following accredited bodies:
For electricians: Electrical Contractor Association of South Africa Training
For plumbers: The Institute of Plumbing South Africa Training
Can I register a meter on behalf of a client?
We prefer that clients register their own meters since we require proof of identification, bank account details, proof of ownership and a council bill (to set the tariff correctly). If a client is happy to provide you with all of those details, then you can install the meter on their behalf. As a security precaution we reserve the right to call them to verify that the information is correct.
